Nestled in the garden of her home on Rushworth’s historic main street, Angie Russi’s studio and showroom offer a warm welcome to visitors exploring this old goldmining town on the edge of the beautiful Rushworth Box-Ironbark Forest.
For more than four decades, Angie has worked with clay, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that are eclectic, spirited and impossible to place in a single category. Inspired by the natural world, her garden, the bush and a deep love of birds, each work carries colour, character and a sense of joy.
Best known for her much-loved spotted guinea fowl series, Angie has returned to these playful, well-dressed birds for more than 30 years. Their quirky personalities and graphic black and white markings have become a signature muse within her evolving body of work.
Alongside her sculptural pieces, Angie creates bespoke domestic ware, expressive tile murals, splashbacks and functional ceramics designed to be used and enjoyed every day. All pieces are individually made and hand painted before being glazed and high fired, with functional works oven and dishwasher friendly.
The studio is open Friday to Sunday and often Public Holidays from 10am to 3pm, inviting visitors to browse the showroom, meet the artist and take home something truly original. Angie also hosts pottery classes and occasional workshops, sharing techniques and her love of making with others.
When visiting, allow time to explore Rushworth township, Growlers Hill Lookout, Whroo State Park and the nearby Waranga Basin.
