Dhurringile Project Update: Some Very Exciting News!
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a really positive update with you all — things are moving, and we’ve had a bit of a breakthrough this week!
As you know, DGV has been continuing the advocacy for the future of Dhurringile and we have been having conversations with key stakeholders including the Department of Transport and Planning, Yorta Yorta Nation, and our local MPs, amongst others to keep Dhurringile front of mind. And today, something very encouraging is happening.

A Big Step Forward
Today, with the help of Annabelle Cleeland MP, we have an important meeting with the Minister for Finance and Sam Burke , Director Land and Property, Department of Transport and Planning. You might remember that we’ve previously met with Sam and pitched our vision to him. The Minister is ultimately responsible for signing off on what happens to Dhurringile, and the Department of Transport and Planning are currently accountable for completing all tasks required to execute the sale.
This meeting won’t just be about the big-picture vision (which we understand the Minister for Finance already understands and supports), but about how we want the site to operate, who might manage it, and the best structure to bring Dhurringile back to life as a tourism destination for the region and the State.
DGV has been busy preparing for this meeting as we are keen to discuss our preferred operating model and high-level dollars for what's required and next steps. While the First Right of Refusal process is still in progress, this process has also been paused to ensure all options are explored, including DGV's vision.
This is a huge win for us — we’ve got the Minister’s ear, he sees the potential, and he wants to hear from us directly.
What Happens Next
Of course we are keen to get the State Government's support to progress to developing a detailed business case for all aspects of our future vision - the state of the art Equestrian Centre, which will not only attract State level competitions, but will also be jewel in the State's crown for attracting international events. Together with a business case for developing luxury accommodation on site, as well as family friendly accommodation, camping grounds together with event and functions centres that will allows us to celebrate cultural experiences, concerts, weddings, seasonal festivals and exhibitions. A business case that demonstrates the financial sustainability of our region. Our vision not only makes use of the existing assets on the estate, but also sees us developing new assets that will make Dhurringile a Destination.
We are also continuing discussions with interested investors and philanthropists who are keen to be part of Dhurringile's next chapter.
Support & Community Momentum
We have received incredible community support to get us to this point, and I'd like to thank everyone for their support. We have had amazing conversations with family members who once called the Dhurringile Mansion home and who are supportive of our vision for the region, including a lovely chat with someone whose grandmother actually lived in the Mansion — a Winter-Irvine family connection. There is so much history wrapped up in this place - we can't afford to miss this opportunity to celebrate our history.
To the local historical societies and external consulting specialists that we have engaged with, a massive thankyou from DGV for your ongoing commitment and support.
Our local interest is also gaining momentum with both Shepp News and The Adviser having picked up our story. We want that momentum to continue and we need your support to make this vision a reality - one that we can all benefit from.
In Short — We’re in a Really Good Position
This commitment from the Minister is promising. The door is open, the timing is right, and there’s genuine interest at State level.
There’s lots to do, but it’s all heading in a really exciting direction.
I’ll keep everyone updated following our meeting and I genuinely hope I can provide even better news in my next update. For now, let’s keep building support and getting more DGV partners on board — If you haven't already joined us, please do, as it's our partnership revenue and donations is what keeps us going to continue this incredibly important work. As a not-for-profit organisation, governed and driven by passionate volunteers we need your help!
Fingers crossed for even more exciting progress in my next update!
