Meet Our New Directors: Natalie Akers & Carolyn Thorburn
Destination Goulburn Valley is proud to welcome two passionate locals to our Board—each bringing a wealth of experience, strong community ties, and a deep love for the region they call home.
Natalie Akers – Champion of Regional Innovation
Based in Tallygaroopna, Natalie Akers is a dairy farmer with a powerful voice in agriculture and water policy. She and her husband run an irrigated dairy enterprise right in the heart of the Goulburn Valley—one of Australia’s most productive farming regions.
With over 20 years of experience spanning dairy research, extension, corporate agribusiness and government policy, Natalie brings rare insight and leadership to the table. Her work has shaped state and national discussions on water, and she currently consults in this space, championing sustainable practices and strategic planning.
Natalie is deeply committed to ensuring the Goulburn Valley remains a leader in innovation and liveability, and she sees Destination Goulburn Valley as a key platform to help tell that story. She holds degrees in Public Policy and Arts, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
“I’m excited to support DGV in building a stronger, more connected regional future—where agriculture, tourism and community go hand in hand.”

Carolyn Thorburn – Grounded in Heritage, Driven by Community
A long-time local with strong ties to Dhurringile, Carolyn Thorburn brings both vision and heart to the DGV Board. Nearly a decade ago, Carolyn and her family moved to their beef and sheep property in Dhurringile, where she lovingly restored the historic home of William Langham—blending her love of architecture, heritage and storytelling.
With deep roots in agriculture and a lifelong passion for renovating and repurposing, Carolyn’s practical know-how is matched by her strong connection to the community. She’s previously run a Dorper sheep stud, is well-known in equestrian circles, and has built her own successful business as a self-employed hairdresser for over 25 years—all while raising three boys.
Carolyn is particularly passionate about the future of the Dhurringile Estate and sees enormous potential for regional development through heritage preservation, tourism, and thoughtful investment.
“The Goulburn Valley is home—I’m thrilled to help shape a future that honours our past while creating new opportunities for generations to come.”
With the addition of Natalie and Carolyn, our board is stronger than ever. Both bring unique perspectives and shared enthusiasm for growing and celebrating everything that makes the Goulburn Valley special.
